Hello, youths. As it turns out, Journey is for you, too.
You perhaps associate songs like “Faithfully” and “Don’t Stop Believin’” with the Fox TV show Glee. The pilot and finale episodes both featured Journey songs. Who could forget the intense eye contact Finn and Rachel made before the regionals performance of “Faithfully”? However, these hits originate in the late 70s–80s with the band Journey. You might not sing along to their hits with Open Arms like I do, but I guarantee—if you’re an 80s/90s kid like me—you’d recognize any of their hits from your childhood when your mom still picked the radio station. Any Way You Want It, Journey’s hits will get stuck in your head. And yes, I am singing it in my head now. Are you? You can also use their songs as a guide for love and relationships. You think romance can only be left to Bruno and Marvin Gaye? False.
When You Love a Woman, you should know she needs Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’. You will also be required to act Faithfully. If you don’t, you may find yourself going Separate Ways (and please Be Good to Yourself and watch the music video for “Separate Ways.” It will change your life…or just give you a moment of absolute confused wonder).Have you lost the romance?
If you haven’t quite accepted that your relationship is over, you can Send Her My Love. And maybe, if you have reformed your ways and Don’t Stop Believin’ that she’ll come back, you may find love again.
@ You when you decide to Be Good to Yourself
Sad because you didn’t take my advice? Look Who’s Crying Now. Just Ask the Lonely if I’ll Be Alright Without You. You’ll see the Lights and be an older, wiser you for next time.
Either way, your marching orders are as follows: find Journey’s Greatest Hits album. Listen to it. Jam to it. And while jamming, read Jonathan Cain’s new book Don't Stop Believin' about his experiences with the band Journey and writing that epic song. It would be like playing the book’s soundtrack in the background.
