Who, me?
Why… ah-thank you! Isn’t it funny how compliments can sometimes almost make you second guess what was said? It's like someone says, “Gurrrrllll, I love those shoes,” and I look behind me to find a more fabulous pair of shoes. It seems like well-deserved compliments aren't deserved at all. Yet, you're right, I am wearing fabulous shoes!
Aw, shucks!
Compliments are all in the delivery. Today, when I opened up my planner, it had “you’re super funny and insanely nice and everyone really likes you” pre-printed on its margins. This is like the mother of all compliments. That's a bold statement coming from a lined notebook! How could anything be more important to me than the opinion of my planner?!
Real compliments, however – a really good warm and fuzzy, make-your-day show of admiration – well, it just takes the cake in my humble opinion. A firm handshake and a “great job” with some serious eye contact from your boss is as wonderful as a chai tea latte on a winter's day; a “mommy, you are the prettiest” from your two-year old can melt your heart. Most of all, a good book filled with encouragement is sometimes exactly what you need to tackle this thing we call
life.
